A lady was on Monday attacked by a gang of four hoodlums at Mabuchi as she left her sister’s apartment at 8 pm. Beatrice Onu, while narrating her experience, said she visited her sister who stays behind the Directorate of Road Traffic Services Headquarters office and was mugged as she was waiting for a vehicle to take her out of the place.
She said two of the hoodlums first accosted and threatened her with a knife if she refused to give them her cell phones.
“After giving them the phones, they reached for my bag and started struggling with it, another member used a razor blade to cut it from my grip,” the victim stated.
She said the gang members forcefully removed her jewelries, wrist-watch and earrings, adding that despite her cry, none of the residents came to her rescue.
An eyewitness, Mallam Yusuf Menoma, said he couldn’t come out of his kiosk because of fear of being injured by the hoodlums, who were armed.
Another resident, Nneoma Nzelu, said in spite of frequent police raids in the area, the hoodlums still return.
“We want the FCT Administration to come to Mabuchi in order to observe the number of shanties and give orders for their demolition,” she added.
When contacted, the Division Police Officer of Utako, Chief Superintendent Olubunmi Ogedengbe said dark spots in the area have been raided.
“We combed all the beer parlors, joints and shanties over the weekend and we discovered that the criminals come from Mararaba and Suleja because of shelter,” he said.
Ogedengbe advised victims of such attacks to report to a nearest police outpost so that immediate action can be taken, adding that the police is out to ensure the cleanup of criminals and thugs from Mabuchi.
