The Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Ms Josephine Tapgun has allayed fears of textiles manufacturers that the government plans to import foreign textiles for the celebration of Nigeria at 50.
She said rather, the Federal Government is rolling out strategic measures to resuscitate the ailing textiles industry by ensuring easier access to the N100 billion textile fund established to revive the industry. She also announced that manufacturers can now freely access LPFO (black oil) and gas directly from the PPMC without going through middlemen following a presidential directive by President Goodluck Jonathan. She disclosed this in a meeting she convened with critical stakeholders in her office on Monday.
In a press release signed by her Special Assistant on Media and Political Affairs, Hon. Yakubu Dati, the minister said that government is committed to resuscitating the CTG (Cotton, Textile and Garment) industry by making funds provided for by the Federal Government more accessible to the manufacturers.
