An Ibadan Customary Court has ordered the parents of a 16-year-old boy to go for blood test to determine the paternity of the boy.
The mother of the boy, Mrs Latifat Taiwo, a trader, told the court yesterday that her husband, Mr Lasisi Bankole, was not the biological father of her son. Taiwo told her son in the court that “the man you know as your father, Lasisi Bankole, is not your biological father.” She said that Bankole could not impregnate her and that she later met a police officer and became pregnant for him. Taiwo, who did not mention the name of the police officer, said she and Bankole agreed to keep the matter a secret. She complained that Bankole had not been treating the boy well and that he had refused to send him to school, even though he had been living with him, thinking that he was his father. The President of the Court, Mrs Ibijoke Adeleke-Gomes, adjourned the case to Oct. 28, and ordered Taiwo, Bankole and the boy to go for blood test to determine the boy’s paternity. She also ordered that the boy’s biological father be brought to court on the adjourned date. Adeleke-Gomes gave custody of the child to his mother and to the biological father. (NAN)
