Police caution against corrupt tendencies

As the 2011 general elections draw nearer, politicians have been cautioned on the use of political thugs popularly called area boys.

Sokoto State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Jinjiri Abubakar who gave the warning during a familiarization visit to Police Area Command Headquarters in Sokoto urged the public to support the fight against drug abuse to prevent the nation’s youths from becoming security nuisance.
He warned officers and men of the state police command against extortion, bribery and other corrupt tendencies, stressing that that anyone caught would be dealt with accordingly.

Abubakar who commended the state government for donating 30 Hilux vehicles to the command, said the gesture would help to reduce crime in the state. He harped on the need for people to always live in peace and remain law-abiding for the overall good of the society.
The Police Commissioner commended members of the Police Community Relations Committee in the zone for their support to the state police command.
The Area Commander, Alhaji Ahmed Iliyasu, said the command had intensified patrols and that its search had led to the arrest of armed robbers, rapists and hoodlums. He called on the general public to always assist the police with useful information.
