The Sole Administrator of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State Alhaji Rabiu Ribah has called on the state government to intervene in curbing thuggery in Ribah town and environs.
The Sole Administrator who blamed the growing thuggery in his local government on a businessman whom he said was in the habit of engaging youths as thugs for political reasons asked for government’s support to help bring the activities of the businessman to an end particularly as 2011 elections approach.Alhaji Rabiu who was reacting to questions from journalists who were stopped by thugs in Ribah, headquarters of the local government said the known thugs in the town were empowered by the combined efforts of the state and local governments through provision of soft loans.
He said the challenge posed by youths engaged in thuggery had taken a dangerous dimension which required quick intervention by the state government in order to ensure that the 2011 elections are conducted under a peaceful atmosphere. According to the council boss, his council has purchased motorcycles and established skills acquisition centres aimed at positively impacting on the lives of youths in the area, and wondered why an individual would deliberately derail this by re-engaging the same youths in thuggery.
