The woman, Chinenye Ossi, who accompanied her husband to court, said her husband was arrested and locked up in the court cell.
“I don’t know if they will allow him to go home today with me as he is everything to me,” she said.
The accused, Lucky Ossi, was charged before Karu Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged negligent conduct, impersonation, being in possession of stolen property and belonging to a gang of thieves.
After the accused failed to appear in court at the last hearing, Chief Magistrate Shuaib Ahmed issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
While responding to his absence, the accused said he came to court several times during judicial staff strike action and did not know his case was slated for that day.
The chief magistrate ordered his release from detention and advised him to always get in touch with the prosecutor to know when his case will come up, adding that he will not entertain such excuse again.
