The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has pledged assistance for the Federal Government’s economic reform programme through the provision of adequate quality resource base.

A statement from the Institute said the chairman, Abuja chapter of ICAN, Chief Fred Okonta, gave the promise yesterday in a symposium on the new ICAN syllabus.

Okonta said today’s accountants need to be well-versed in knowledge, skills and professionalism, as well as being able to deliver seamless and excellent services to their employers and clients,  hence the new syllabus was premised on assisting them to achieve this and meet the various challenges posed by a world that has gone global.

“The new syllabus is knowledge and skills based. It is also expected to meet the essential core competencies of the profession. The structure of the new syllabus is in line with the institute’s current policy on specialisation as demonstrated in the establishment of six facilities, namely; audit, investigation and forensic accounting, taxation and fiscal policy, consultancy and information technology, insolvency and corporate re-engineering, public finance management and corporate finance management”, Okonta said.

He implored all ICAN students and interested members of the public to fully embrace the new syllabus as it is designed to embrace their technical capacities.
