Former Military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari(Rtd) yesterday in Kaduna urged Nigerians to evaluate those aspiring for elective positions in the country based on past records, rather than engaging the nation on unnecessary and selfish distractions.

General Buhari who stated this during the lunch of a book written by Professor Tam David West entitled, The Sixteen ‘sins’ of General Muhammadu Buhari,” said for the country to advance, the next general elections must be free and fair.

“Getting credible leadership and the conduct of free election is not the responsibility of any body or any country but that of Nigerians. Nigeria has suffered so much from the ‘art’ and ‘science’ of deceit, corruption, evils of sectional, ethnic and religious sentiments, Let us address the issues on how to repair our decayed infrastructures, provide energy, good education, healthcare, security and generate employment.

“I therefore challenge the people especially the media, organized labour, the academia and civil society organization to evaluate politicians, rather than engaging the nation on unnecessary and selfish detraction. Nigeria of this era should be a community that tasks its leaders on their past performance and how they will improve upon that. I think it is out of date to bore the people on where one comes from, the language he speaks or his mode of worship,’’ he added.

In his opening speech, chairman of the occasion, Alhaji M.T Waziri, extolled the good virtues of General Buhari and urged Nigerians to emulate him.
