Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman, one of the sons of the late emir of Bauchi, has been named as the new emir in Bauchi last night.

The 40-year-old Rilwanu beat 19 other contestants to emerge the 11th emir of Bauchi in a selection process that saw kingmakers forwarding names of three nominees to Governor Isa Yuguda.

Announcing the selection to a gathering of royal family members and kingmakers at the emir’s palace in Bauchi around 11.15pm, secretary to the state government Ahmed Dandija said the governor considered the nominations as well as all relevant laws and conventions before making the selection.
Dandija urged royal family members to accept the selection in good faith and implored on the new emir to embrace his kinsmen as well as work towards the progress of the state.

Rilwanu, born October 14, 1970 in Bauchi, attended the Kobi Primary School Bauchi (1976 to 1982), Government Secondary School Toro (1982 to 1987) and Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi (1991 to 1995).

He has a Bachelor’s of Technology degree in Building Technology obtained from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi in 2001.
Rilwanu worked with the Nigerian Port Authority between 2002 and 2006. Until his appointment as emir of Bauchi yesterday, he was working at the Nigeria-Sao Tome & Principe Joint Development Authority. He is married and has two children.
The late emir Suleiman Adamu died last Friday at an Egyptian hospital, and was buried on Sunday in Bauchi.

This is God's decision,He gives power to whom He wishes, at the time He wishes. All power belongs to Allah the Almighty.
